(More customer reviews)I used to have a product similar to this one years ago. I regret that I gave that one away to a friend when I was moving, because I haven't been able to find one of the same quality since that time. This item looks very similar to the shoe rack I used to have, but is definitely not the same quality. Issues:
(1) When it arrived, my product was missing 2 of the 4 caps that cover the floor contact points. (I did look very carefully through the box and the packing material to make sure they hadn't fallen off in the box somewhere.) Without the caps, the cut metal easily scratches a hard surface floor (like tile or hardwood), as it scratched mine. In addition, it makes the rack wobble because now it's not evenly placed on the bottom. Now I have to find something to replace those missing caps.
(2) The way this shelf is held together doesn't work very well on this particular brand. The design intention is as follows: there are little hooks on each corner of each shelf, and they latch on to horizontal side bars at several levels on the side pieces of the rack. The tension of the hooks pulling the bars toward the center of the rack, and the side bars pulling away from the rack at the same time, is what holds it together. This design worked extremely well in my prior rack, so I know the concept can work well. However, on this model, the hooks won't stay latched on the side bars very well, maybe because the hooks are too small or aren't designed properly - just slightly bumping the rack makes the hooks come loose from the bars, which makes the whole rack start to fall apart.
(3) The hooks themselves have no coating on the bottom the way my other model did. Therefore, they easily snag and scratch anything that comes into contact with them (i.e., when leaning over the rack to put shoes on the bottom shelf, my shirt snagged on a hook, which never happened with my other one).
It just isn't worth the cost of returning this product, because the metal is heavy enough that shipping back would probably be more than half of what I paid for it. I would have been willing to pay at least twice what I paid for this model/brand if the quality had been the same as what I had in the past.
This is a great design concept for a shoe rack because it really is easy to put together (about the only thing that actually worked right on this model) and metal makes an excellent shoe holder because it's easy to clean off when shoes make it dirty. But keep looking for the same concept with a different brand - this particular one just isn't worth the money.
